Santorini

History
In Prehistoric Times, the 17th century BC, a volcanic eruption is responsible for the shape and morphology of Santorini as well as the impressive natural features that we admire today. During the ancient years, Santorini was an important cultural center of Cyclades and Greece. The different peoples who settled on the island changed its name several times, from Kallisti (the most beautiful) and Stroggili (the circular) to Thira and finally Santorini (after the church of Santa Irene during the Venetian Domination).
Sightseeing and Touring
Due to its rich history, Santorini has amazing archaeological and historical sites.
The excavations of the Prehistoric settlement in Akrotiri village, introduces to the visitors how lava and ash saved for centuries the history of the island. Some archaeologists believe that Santorini is connected with the Lost Atlantis.
At the Ancient Thira the visitors apart from the magical view can admire the remains of sanctuaries, houses, a theater etc. It is also worth visiting the Archaeological, Folklore and Prehistoric Museums in Fira as well as the Maritime Museum in Ia.
A wonderful touring activity is a day trip by boat to Santorini’s complex of islands: the volcano with the hot springs, where you can swim, and the island of Thirassia, which are situated opposite of Santorini.
Gastronomy

From the Airport and Port there are frequent bus departures to Fira, the capital village, and from there you can change bus to Firostefani village (first stop at the bus towards Ia) in order to reach Galini Hotel and Villas. We had a fabulous stay, this is also being said by parents with a 2 year old with us. The staff was very helpful, they arranged a baby sitter for our daughter (the sitter was very very caring and sweet to our daughter) as we had a wedding to attend is Santorini during our stay.The included early morning breakfast were great especially being served outside facing the sea.
